Mr. Juggling Act has been patiently trying to cultivate a little Patriot's lover in our 5-year-old son Ethan but it's a lost cause. The same goes for game day food - if it's not hot dogs or chicken nuggets, Ethan is not interested. Forget the Buffalo Chicken Dip or my favorite chili - Ethan won't touch those with a ten-foot pole. {Sigh.}
Mr. Juggling Act shakes his head and shares with Olivia - who will eat just about anything.Secretly, though, I think he is happy he doesn't have to share too many of "his" game day snacks like these mouthwatering baked chicken wings.
💭 Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some questions (and answers!) readers often ask about our honey teriyaki chicken wings recipe.
Is teriyaki sauce healthy?
Well, that's a little bit of a loaded question... teriyaki sauce has too much salt and sugar to be considered healthy, however, my motto is always "all things in moderation" so I don't consider it unhealthy either.
I enjoy making my own sauces because I can control what goes into them. For instance, in this homemade teriyaki sauce, I can use a little less salt or honey if I prefer.
Are chicken wings bad for you?
Chicken wings have a lot of skin and fat, which are not good for you. However, since these wings are baked, they are healthier than a deep-fried version.

If you prefer to use store-bought teriyaki sauce, no shame here! You can still follow this method, substituting the homemade sauce.
- chicken wings
- honey
- Teriyaki marinade (usually made with mirin, soy sauce, and ginger)
- vegetable oil
- chili powder
- granulated garlic (garlic powder)
- ground ginger
- soy sauce
- salt and black pepper
- scallions for garnish - you could also use chives
- sesame seeds (optional)
🔪Instructions
Honey Teriyaki Sauce
Here's how you make the flavorful sauce:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, teriyaki marinade, oil, and seasonings. Divide the mixture, reserving half for baking.
- Add the chicken to a large resealable container with the other half of the liquid.
- Refrigerate 2 hours up to overnight. The longer the wings marinate, the better the flavor will be.
If you are not a fan of honey, try our sweet and spicy teriyaki sauce instead.

📖 Variations
We recommend that you try our recipe for the first time just as it is written for the best results, because that is how the recipe has been tested.
However, the next time you make it, you might consider one of these different ways of making this great recipe.
- Substitute brown sugar, or even maple syrup, for the honey.
- If you have it on hand, you can use 1 teaspoon of fresh ginger instead of ground ginger.
- For really crispy wings, add a baking rack on top of a baking sheet. Add the wings in a single layer on the wire rack and bake as directed.
- You can use this same method to make hot buffalo chicken wings.

Storage
To Store: Once the wings have cooled to room temperature, transfer the cooked leftover wings to an airtight container. Refrigerate for 3-4 days.
To Reheat: Place the wings in an oven safe dish and cover with aluminum foil. Place into a 300F oven and bake until warmed through.
These Honey Teriyaki Chicken Wings aren't spicy, though you could add a little heat by increasing the chili powder or adding cayenne pepper. They are sweet from the honey and the teriyaki and ginger flavors are a nice compliment to the sweetness. You're going to love them!
